Extra CreditUnit 1 Opportunities:
1. "On Hobbes and Halloween" (Expires 10/31/19) Read the article provided. After reading the article, answering the following questions with short paragraph(s) (4-6 sentences), using quotes from the article. A bibliographical citation has been provided for you (you must change it to footnote citation when quoting). 1. Describe Hobbes' state of nature. Why would the author use it in relation to Halloween? 2. What is the author's argument? What are his main supports? 3. From what the author says, does he feel Halloween is more suited to the beliefs of Locke or Hobbes? 4. How do you interpret the quote from "Benjamin Franklin"? 5. Do you think our government is more like the Hobbesian one described here (one that keeps the public in terror of what could be), or one more similar to that of John Locke's (where the government must take care of the people or else be disposed)?

1. Your Place on the Political Scale Take the Political Compass test and print out your results. The questions will ask whether you agree, disagree, strongly agree, or strongly disagree; there is no in-between so you must take a stance on some issues. Your responses are not stored anywhere, and there is no log-in required for the website. Your results page will contain explanations of viewpoints and give world leaders as relatable examples. You will need to scroll down before you see your actual results under the header "Your Political Compass." Click the option to see your chart in a new tab for printing. Print your results and bring them in! (Expires 03/03/2020 at 4pm) Unit 4 Opportunities: 1. Outline a Filibuster Create an outline of a filibuster you would give before the Senate. Choose an issue to talk about, then start your outline. You may use the outline page below to help. A Roman Numeral with FIVE indented points equals 1 hour, three indented points equals 1/2 hour. 1. Fantasy SCOTUS Register for the free Fantasy Supreme Court league(?), take your picks on at least TWO cases going on now. Print out the page with your predictions, and bring it in. You can get more extra credit when the case is decided, simply print your page again with the results! Unit 6 Opportunities: 1. "This Election is 1968 All Over Again..." Read the article below and answer the questions that appear at the end of the article. Your answers should be on your own paper and appear as short paragraphs (4-6 sentences). (unavailable)
